The invention relates to a process for the cryopreservation of biological materials, especially of cells, tissues, organ parts and organs. To increase the survival rate of the cryopreserved biological material, sodium selenite is administered to the donor organism and the material is briefly incubated after removal in a preservative solution preferably containing the cryoprotectant dimethylsulfoxide, brought to -25 ° C while maintaining a suitable defined cooling rate and then stored in liquid nitrogen. |
