abstract |
The invention relates to an oxygen-absorbable composition based on mercapto-functional organic compounds, which is stable in the absence of oxygen and is used for the preparation of higher molecular weight products. The composition of the invention consists of the following ingredients which are prepared by mixing in the practical absence of oxygen; (A) 100 parts by weight of at least one mercapto-functional copolymer of organosilicon segments and organic segments or a mixture of at least two different types of the following three components: the above copolymers, a silicon-free mercapto-functional organic compound and a mercapto-functional organosilicon compound, (B) 0 to 200 parts by weight a filler, (C) 0.1 to 6 parts by weight of an iron carbonyl catalyst, and (D) 0.1 to 6 parts by weight of an acid such as 2-ethylhexanoic acid meeting certain criteria. The above compositions polymerize or leach out upon exposure to oxygen at room temperature. The resulting products are suitable as coatings for paper or electrical insulation or production of elastomeric sealing materials. |
