abstract Process for selective hydrogen transfer to 1,3-dienes in the presence of homogeneous nickel catalysts. The essence of the invention is that with nickel (O) catalyst complexes formed "in situ" during the hydrogenation reaction from a nickel (II) compound, a phosphorus (III) compound and an alkali metal alkoxide 1.3-Dienes can be transferred from added protic components (secondary aliphatic or cycloaliphatic alcohols) stereospecific hydrogen The protic component also serves as a solvent. Possible fields of application are: - Processes in which only 1,3-structures are stereospecifically gently hydrogenated. - Processes in which the hydrogenation products should not undergo any further change.
