abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 2- (3-aryl-5-isoxazolyl) benzoic acids, their salts u. Halides by reacting 3 '- (aryl) -spiro & isobenzofuran-1 (3H), 5' (4'H) -isoxazol! -3-ones with each heat, strong base or a reactive halide in water. The compounds prepared have the general formula I wherein X and Y independently of one another are hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halo-lower alkyl, phenoxyphenyl or cyano. For example, 2- & 3- (m-trifluoromethylphenyl) -5-isoxazolyl! Benzoic acid is prepared from 3 '- (m-trifluoromethylphenyl) -spiro & isobenzofuran (3H), 5' (4'H) -isoxalol! manufactured.
