abstract Zinc-based paints based on alkali metal silicates, especially potassium or sodium water glass, for corrosion protection and protection against scaling of temperature-loaded iron surfaces are storable and can be prepared and used as a one-component paint. The paints, which may optionally contain pigments, fillers and auxiliaries, are mixed with alkaline earth metalaborates in amounts of 1 to 25% by weight, based on the amount of zinc dust, and show no signs of decomposition for at least 6 months.
