The invention involves a simple synthesis for the preparation of substituted 2-aminobenzothiazoles. These compounds are intermediates in the manufacture of crop protection products. The task was to cyclize N-aryl-N'-alkylthioureas without the use of solvents to 2-aminobenzothiazoles. In a simple and rapid process, N-phenyl-N'-methylthiourea is cyclized with thionyl chloride at 40 to 50 degrees C to give 2-methylaminobenzothiazole. According to this method, N-phenyl-N'-alkylthioureas can be cyclized to N-alkylamino-benzothiazoles solvent-free. 2-Alkylaminobenzothiazoles are important as intermediates for the production of pesticides. |
