The catalyst is used in petroleum chemistry in the synthesis of low molecular weight aromatic hydrocarbons. The object of the invention is to provide a catalyst which ensures a high degree of selectivity of the process with a high degree of conversion of the starting material. According to the invention, the catalyst contains on alumina as carrier rhodium or rhodium in admixture with 0.1 to 2% by weight of another noble metal of group VIII of the Periodic Table and 0.003 to 3% by weight of at least one of the elements from the group sulfur, Selenium or lead. Furthermore, the catalyst to increase the yield of end product contains 0.01 to 5 wt .-% of at least one element selected from the group iron, cobalt, nickel, chromium, copper, vanadium and 0.01 to 5 wt .-% of one of the elements the alkali metal or alkaline earth metal group or mixtures thereof. |
