titleOfInvention Rubber powders and processes for their preparation
abstract Finely divided rubber powder (powdered rubber) which contains, in addition to a rubber matrix (a), one or more white and/or black fillers (b) as used in the rubber industry (optionally modified with organosilicon compounds (OSC)) and one or more known additives (c) for the production of vulcanized rubber. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of finely-divided, filler-containing rubber powder from aqueous mixtures containing fillers, water-soluble metal salts and rubber etc. by: (a) mixing a rubber latex or an aqueous emulsion of a rubber solution, especially in presence of an emulsifier, with more than 50 but less than 100 wt% of the finely divided filler (preferably as a 2-15 wt% aqueous suspension, optionally with 0.1-20 wt% OSC for surface modification or in a presilanized form) and then adjusting the mixture to pH 7.5-6.5, preferably by adding a Lewis acid, (b) adding the rest of the filler in the form of a suspension (plus the rest of any OSC required) and then precipitating the rubber with the filler by lowering the pH to 6.5-5, preferably about 5.5, (c) isolating the solid by known methods, (d) optionally washing; and (e) drying.
