titleOfInvention | Glass-fiber reinforced composite material and method for its production |
abstract | Prodn. of a glass fibre-reinforced composite material comprises a) heating glass fibres with a silane compsn. comprising silane molecules having amine functional gps. and silicone molecules having ethylenically unsatd. functional gps.; b) admixing the treated glass fibres with a polyolefin resin and a fibre bonding agent comprising (i) 0.05-15 wt% polymerisable unsatd. organic cpd. with at least two polymerisable unsaturation gps.; and (ii) 0.05-5 wt% of a vinyl-polymerisable unsatd. hydrolysable silane; and opt. (iii) 0.0025-2.5 wt% free radical generator. The wt. percentages of (i) to (iii) are based on the total wt. of the treated fibres. The free radicals are generated in an amt. sufficient to cause bonding of the treated glass fibres with the resin. The resultant mixt. is exposed to conditions of temp. and pressure to cause the formation of a fibre-reinforced composite materials. The glass fibre reinforced composite material formed as above is also claimed. |
