abstract The process entails the reaction of aspartic acid with an alkali metal hydroxide or an organic amine, subsequent reaction of the resulting salt with a C8 to C20 alkyl acetoacetate or a C1 to C20 acetoacetamide, conversion of the resulting DANE salt with an acid chloride into the mixed anhydride and condensation thereof with phenylalanine alkyl ester to give the required product.
