abstract In the present invention, there is disclosed an enhanced process for preparing compounds of the general formula III, in which A represents CH=CH or sulfur; W denotes oxygen, X represents sulfur, oxygen or NRe2, wherein the radical Re2 denotes hydrogen or alkyl containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms, Y represents CH or nitrogen, R represents naphthyl, thienyl or phenyl, being optionally mono- or disubstituted with alkyl having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, CFi3, an alkoxy group containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms, fluorine, chlorine or bromine, Re1 represents hydrogen or alkyl containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and n is 1 to 3, by reacting compounds of the general formula IV, in which A, W, X, R, Re1 a n are as specified above, with activated aluminium in protic solvents. Disclosed are also novel compounds of the general formula III, medicaments in which these compounds are comprised as well as their use in the treatment of diabetes mellitus.
