titleOfInvention Product for desulfurizing liquid cast iron and process for producing thereof
abstract Prod. for desulphurising molten cast iron, consisting of granules of calcium carbide composed of calcium carbide powder coated or agglomerated with a binder consisting either of an organic material having a m.pt. of 70-100 deg. C or a polymerisable resin with a polymerisation temp. of 40-70 deg. C. The Ca2C pref. comprises grains coated with a first layer of a binder which is solid at ambient temps., and opt. coated with a more or less continuous external layer of Ca2C grains of finer particle size than the coated particles. The binder is e.g. a rosin, stearic acid, a satd. fatty ester of glycerol with a purity of at least 90%, esp. hydrogenated castor oil based on glycerol trihydroxystearate, furfurylic resins, polyesters, vinyl-ester resins or epoxy resins. Pref. the amt. of binder used is 0.2-10 wt.% w.r.t. the wt. of Ca2C.
