abstract | The use of Propionibacterium granulosum, P.avidum and/or P.acnes for prodn. of cell-wall or whole-cell prepns. in the radio- or chemotheraphy of tumours is claimed. Pref. strains are P. granulosum KP45 (DSM 1773) and P.avidum KP40 (DSM 1772). Prepns. for i.p., i.v., or intratumoral admin. pref. contain 0.5-50 (esp. 5-7.5) mg/ml. of killed cells or cell walls suspended in phosphate-buffered saline (pH 7.2). The prepns. increase tolerance to radiation, promote tumour regression and increase resistance to bacterial infection. |
