titleOfInvention | Anionelective polymeric binder for alkaline electrolysis electrodes |
abstract | In the preparation of electrodes for alkaline electrolysis of water, a binder consisting of poly (2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) with benzyltrimethylammonium groups in the side chain containing 5 to 35 mol%. of polymeric structural units with a benzyltrimethylammonium group, dissolved in an organic solvent to a 1-20% solution, and the resulting solution mixed with the catalyst particles to form a catalytic ink. The catalytic ink is applied to the electrodes and the solvent is evaporated. In preparing the anode, the binder solution is mixed with the catalyst particles so that the catalyst / binder weight ratio after application to the anode and after evaporation of the solvent is 97: 3 to 50:50. In preparing the cathode, the binder solution is mixed with the catalyst particles so that the catalyst / binder weight ratio after application to the cathode and after evaporation of the solvent is 97: 3 to 60:40. The resultant catalytic layer on the electrodes is conductive to hydroxyl anions and does not prevent electron transfer and does not prevent the transport of water, oxygen and hydrogen in alkaline water electrolysis. |
