abstract The method of verifying the authenticity of a secured document comprises the steps of detecting a transmitted signal which is emitted by the label in response to the applied energy and which represents physical characteristics selected from the group consisting of spectral selective absorption of electromagnetic radiation characteristics, by means of the authenticated data authentication device, comparing the detected response signal with the reference data, verifying the detected response signal in the mobile communication device based on the result of the comparison between the detected response signal and the reference data. The method further comprises the preliminary steps of retrieving the measurement and verification algorithm from the remote server or database to the storage devices of the mobile communication device, retrieving reference data from the remote server or database to the storage devices of the mobile communication device, generating the detected response signal by the authenticated data authentication device. by starting the measurement algorithm by the data processing device, and verifying the detected response signal by the mobile communication device is performed by starting the verification algorithm and using the reference data by the data processing device, and generating an output signal representing the authentication result. The invention also relates to a unit and system for verifying the authenticity of a secured document.
