N-phenylarylsulfonylamide compounds of formula I (R.sup.1. Denotes COOH, etc .; R.sup.2. Denotes hydrogen, methyl, etc .; R.sup.3. 4 is a combination of a methyl group and a methyl group, etc .; R 5 denotes an isopropyl group, etc .; Ar represents a thiazolyl group, a pyridyl group, a 5-methyl-2-furyl group, each optionally substituted by methyl; n represents 0 or 1). The compound of formula I binds to and antagonizes the prostagladin E.sub.2.n receptor, in particular the EP.sub.1.n receptor subtype. It is less influenced by protein binding, so it has satisfactory in vivo activity. It is therefore considered to be useful as an analgesic, antipyretic, agent for the treatment of pollakiuria and / or lower urinary tract disease or an antitumor agent. |
