abstract | The dry powder inhaler compositions comprise a cylindrical air circulation chamber (3) whose height is smaller than its diameter, and at least two air supply channels (2, 9) suitable for forming a circular air flow pattern within the chamber (3). The inlet ducts (2, 9) enter the circulation chamber (3) in a tangential direction to its cylindrical wall (5) at generally opposite sides of the cylindrical wall (5). Both air inlet ducts (2, 9) have either different inlets or alternatively share the same inlet that is divided so that it has one flow channel (2) for passing the dose measuring or feeding region of the inhaler to allow the powder to be carried in a single dose to circulating chamber (3) through air flow through said flow channel (2). Another flow channel serves as a bypass channel (9) towards the circulation chamber (3), suitable for accelerating particles and generating a more symmetrical flow pattern within the chamber (3). The number of bypass channels (9) is from one to eight, in addition to the channel (2) passing through the inhaler dispensing means. The shape of the circulation chamber (3) is provided with corners having sides (22, 32) of the wall (5) of the circulation chamber (3) of different lengths. The longer sides (32) and adjacent shorter sides (22) alternate, and the longer sides (32) serve as acceleration sides along which the particles acquire a speed of movement to increase the impact velocity. Shorter sides (22) are suitable as impact spots. The invention also relates to a dry powder inhaler comprising the aforementioned grinding agents. |
