The novel osteoprotegerin binding protein involved in osteoclast maturation has been identified based on its osteoprotegerin affinity. Also described are nucleic acid sequences encoding a polypeptide, or a fragment thereof, an analogue derivative, vectors and host cells and methods for the preparation of an osteoprotegerin binding protein, as well as binding assays. Further provided are compositions for treating bone diseases such as osteoporosis, arthritis or metastatic bone loss, hypercalcemia, or Paget's disease. Osteoprotegerin binding protein receptors are also described. Receptors and their agonists or antagonists can also be used to treat bone diseases. |
