abstract |
A method for obtaining acetic acid from an aqueous phase comprising acetic acid, comprising the steps of: a) contacting the aqueous phase with a water-immiscible solvent mixture and a cosolvent containing i) a water-immiscible solvent containing more than 50% by volume of the highly branched dialkylamine isomer and less than 1% by volume of monoalkylamine, wherein said solvent has a partition coefficient greater than 10; and ii) at least 10% by volume of a non-alcoholic co-solvent having a boiling point of 125 to 250 degC, b) extracting acetic acid from the aqueous phase to the resulting solvent phase, and c) distilling acetic acid from the solvent phase at a temperature not exceeding 160 degC. . A mixture of a water-immiscible solvent and a cosolvent to perform this method. |
