abstract Process for the preparation of 17.beta .- (Nt-butylcarbamoyl) -4-aza-5.alpha.-androst-1-en-3-one in polymorphic form II, general formula 2, wherein 1) is crystallized by finasteride mixture, an organic solvent and water in which the solvated form of finasteride is less soluble than any other form of finasteride, wherein the amount of organic solvent and water in the mixture is sufficient to exceed the solubility of the solvated form of finasteride; removes solvent.
