titleOfInvention Industrial strain SeIV of the green chlorococcal race of Scenedesmus quadricauda (Turp.) Bréb.
abstract The strain of Scenedesmus quadricauda, which is capable of growing in the presence of high concentrations of selenite (Na.sub.2.sub.2.sub.3), which are lethal to cells of the collection strain. This strain grows at extremely high concentrations of selenium at the same or higher rate and is able to absorb significantly higher amounts of organically bound selenium than the control strain. In addition to autotrophic growth in photobioreactors, heterotrophs can also grow in fermenters. However, the presence of selenate (Na.sub.2.sub.2) is toxic to this strain at the same concentrations as the control culture.
