Disclosed is a topical systemic hormone gel composition comprising: as active ingredient nomegestrol and / or one of its esters at a concentration of from 0.05 to 1% by weight of the total composition; a vehicle capable of achieving systemic penetration of said active ingredient through a skin barrier comprising a solubilizing agent selected from a mixture of at least two solvents selected from the group consisting of water, alcohols, propylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, polyethylene-20-sorbitan monooleate, C.sub.8.n Polyoxyethylene glycosylglyceride and mixtures thereof, furthermore an absorption enhancing agent and a film forming agent and / or a gelling agent. The disclosed systemic effect agent is suitable for correcting progesterone deficiency in premenopausal women and for hormone replacement therapy in postmenopausal women. |
