abstract |
The aqueous sol containing silica-based particles has an S-value in the range of 10 to 45% and a viscosity in the range of 5 to 40 cP, and a molar ratio of SiO 2 to 2%. wherein M is an alkali metal or ammonium ion, in the range of 10: 1 to 40: 1, or has a silicon oxide content of at least 10% by weight. The method for producing silica-based particles comprises the steps of: (a) acidifying an aqueous solution of silicate to a pH of 1 to 4 to form an acidic sol, (b) alkalizing the acidic solution containing SiO 2. in the range of 4.5 to 8% by weight, (c) allowing the solution to be alkalized for at least 10 minutes for aging to grow the particles, and (d) basifying the sol obtained to a pH of at least 10.0. Silica-based particles are obtainable by this method. Their use is as a dewatering agent and means for increasing the retention of paper production. In the process for producing paper from an aqueous suspension containing cellulosic fibers, silica-based particles and at least one organic polymer are added to the suspension. |
