Peptides of the formula: A.sub.0.n.-A.sub.1.n.-A.sub.2.n.-A.sub.3.n.-A.sub.4.n.-A. sub.5.n.-A.sub.6.n.-A.sub.7.n.-A.sub.8.n.-A.sub.9.n.-A.sub.10.n or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, ester, solvate or prodrug thereof, wherein: A.sub.1.n. is sarcosyl, A.sub.2.n. is glycyl, A.sub.3.n. is valyl, A.sub.7.n. is isoleucyl, A.sub.8.n. is arginyl, A.sub.9.n. jeprolyl, A.sub.0.n. is hydrogen or an acyl group selected from the group consisting of: (1) R- (CH.sub.2.n.), sub.nn-C (O) -, wherein n is an integer selected from 0, 1, 2, 3 and 5 and R is selected from the group consisting of methyl, N-acetylamino, methoxy, carboxyl, cyclohexyl, cyclohexyl containing one double bond and substituted with three hydroxyl groups, and a 5- or 6-membered aromatic or non-aromatic ring optionally containing one heteroatom selected from the group including nitrogen and oxygen, wherein the ring is optionally substituted with alkyl, and (2) R.sub.1 -CH.sub.2.n.CH.sub.2.n.- (OCH.sub.2.n. CH.sub.2.n.O.sub.pn-CH.sub.2.n.-C (O) -; where R.sup.1.n. is N-acetylamino and p is 1; where A.sub.0.n. represents hydrogen or an acyl group; A.sub.10.n. represents a hydroxyl group or an amino acid amide; and A.sub.4.n., A.sub.5.n., A.sub.6.n. and A.sub.10.n. are amino acid residues as defined herein. |
