titleOfInvention A process for treating waste polyethylene terephthalate by thermal decomposition thereof
abstract The method consists in the heat treatment of the waste polyethylene terephthalate in a pyrolysis furnace with no access to air, the product of which is a mixture of terephthalic acid and benzoic acid and furthermore a high purity carbon. From the mixture, terephthalic acid is separated by suitable separation procedures and recycled to produce new polyethylene terephthalate or used for the synthesis of other organic chemistry products. Benzoic acid can be used for organic synthesis after separation and purification. Highly pure carbon (90-95%) can be used in various industries such as reducing or carburizing agents.
