abstract The catalyst for producing vinyl acetate by the reaction of ethylene, oxygen and acetic acid comprises a porous support on which catalytically effective amounts of palladium metal, gold and copper are deposited. The catalyst is prepared by impregnating a porous support containing catalytically effective amounts of pre-reduced palladium metal and copper with a solution of potassium goldite and then reducing the potassium goldite to metallic gold. Alternatively, the carrier containing the pre-reduced metal gold may be impregnated with palladium and copper complexes followed by fixing and reducing the complexes to palladium and copper metal. A process for producing vinyl acetate using said catalyst.
