abstract The present invention relates to novel substituted [2- (1-piperazinyl) ethoxy] methyl compounds of formula (I) wherein R @ 1 is 1. is -CONH2, -CN, -COOH, -COOM, or -COOR3, M is an alkali metal, and R5 is not substituted. represents an alkyl radical containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and R.sub.2.n. represents a hydrogen atom or a -COR.sub.4 group. or -R.sub.5, wherein R.sub.4 is. is selected from the group consisting of -OR.sub.6.n. or -R.sub.7, where R.sub.5.n. represents an allyl or alkylaryl radical; represents a straight or branched alkyl radical having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a haloalkyl radical, an alkylaryl radical, an alkyl nitroaryl radical or an alkylhaloaryl radical; represents a haloalkyl radical, a process for the preparation of these compounds and their use for the preparation of compounds which are themselves valuable intermediates for the preparation of 2- [2- [4 - [(4-chlorophenyl) phenylmethyl] -1-piperazinyl] ethoxy] acetic acid or 2 - [2- [4- [bis (4-fluorophenyl) methyl] -1-piperazinyl] ethoxy] acetic acid and / or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
