titleOfInvention | A method of aqueous extraction of clavulanic acid |
abstract | An aqueous extraction process wherein (a) a water-immiscible, or partially immiscible, organic solvent stream is contacted with free clavulanic acid, (b) and the resulting stream is contacted with an aqueous medium stream in the first mixing zone, and (c) further introducing the amine into the first mixing region such that the water-soluble organic solute, the clavulanic acid salt of the amine, is formed in situ in the first mixing region by the reaction between the amine and the clavulanic acid, the solute transitioning from the organic solvent into the aqueous medium in the first mixing zone, and then the organic solvent and the aqueous phases are physically separated during the separation step. |
