A catalyst, a process for its preparation and a process for preparing vinyl acetate using this catalyst |
abstract |
The vapor-phase catalyst for the production of vinyl acetate contains, based on the total weight of the catalyst, 0.2 to 2.5 wt. % palladium and / or its compound, 0.2 to 2.5 wt. % gold and / or its compound and 0.1 to 10 wt. an alkali metal compound on a porous particulate support, and is prepared as follows: a) impregnating the carrier with soluble palladium and gold compounds; b) converting the soluble palladium and gold compounds on the support by adding an alkaline solution to the insoluble palladium and gold compounds; c) reducing the insoluble palladium and gold compounds on the support with a reducing agent in a liquid or gas phase; d) the carrier is impregnated with at least one soluble alkali metal compound; and e) the carrier is finally dried at a temperature of not more than 150 degC, contacting the catalyst in step b) with at least one peroxide compound, for example sodium perborate. A process for the production of vinylacetate in the gas phase from ethylene, acetic acid and oxygen or from oxygen-containing gases in the presence of the catalyst so produced. |
