abstract Ortho-substituted benzoylguanidines of the general formula I, wherein the meanings of the symbols are given in the specification, and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts and medicaments and compositions containing them. These compounds are useful as anti-arrhythmic agents with a cardioprotective component suitable for the prophylaxis and treatment of infarction and the treatment of angina pectoris. They also inhibit preventive pathophysiological processes in the development of ischemically induced disorders, particularly in the development of ischemically induced cardiac arrhythmias.
