Substituted phenols of the general formula I in which R is alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenylalkyl, -CH 2 -, -A-R 2. or a group of the general formula II, R.sub.1. is alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenylalkyl or a group of formula (II); is alkyl, - (CH.sub.2.d.). or a group of formula III, R.sub.3. is hydrogen, cycloalkyl, or alkyl, R @ 4 is. is alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenylalkyl or a group of formula II or IV, A is S or SO, E is a bond, -CH 2, O- or -CH.sub.2-NH-, G is an acid to or -NR.sub.3.n-, Y is alkyl, cyclohexyl, phenyl or alpha- or beta-naphthyl, R.sub. .5.n. is alkyl, and m m is 1 or 2, with at least one of the radicals R and R 4 being n. is a group of the general formula II or R is CH.sub.2-A-R.sub.2. and R.sub.4.n. is a group of formula IV. These compounds are suitable for stabilizing the organic material, especially for vulcanization to synthetic or natural rubber.
