abstract It relates to a process for the preparation of carboxylic acid derivatives of the general formula I, wherein X is OR.sup.2.n. or NH.sub.2. represents C.sub.1.n. and C.sub.20 alkyl group, C.sub.1.n. and C.sub.20.alpha.-hydroxyalkyl group, C.sub.3. and C.sub.12, cycloalkyl, C.sub.4.n. and C.sub.12 alkylcycloalkyl, C.sub.4.n. and C.sub.12.cycloalkylalkyl, C.sub.5.n. and C.sub.20.n. alkylcycloalkylalkyl, aryl, C.sub.7.n. and C.sub.20.n. arylalkyl, C.sub.7.n. and C.sub.20.n. alkylaryl, heteroaliphatic ring containing 4 and 8 atoms including 1 or 2 heteroatoms or heteroaromatic ring containing 5 and 6 atoms with 1 or 2 heteroatoms and R 5 with 2 atoms; represents C.sub.1.n. and C.sub.20 alkyl, a reaction of a carboxylic acid nitrile of formula II wherein R.sup.1 is as defined above and an alcohol of formula III wherein R.sup.2 is as defined above , at temperatures of 50 and 300 degC and at a pressure of 0.01 and 35 MPa in the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst. The reaction is due to the presence of titanium oxide as a heterogeneous catalyst.
