titleOfInvention Process for preparing hydrochloride of 5-amino-1,3-dimethyltricyclo(3,3,1,1 3,7 )decane
abstract In the present invention there is disclosed a process for preparing memantine by reacting 5-chloro-1,3-dimethyltricyclo(3,3,1,1e3,7)decane with formamide. The preparation process is characterized by extraction of intermediates after reaction in toluene and subsequent treatment with hydrogen chloride, whereby memantine is extracted and minor products are selectively converted to the starting 5-chloro-1,3-dimethyltricyclo(3,3,1,1e3,7)decane.
