The invented method for dehalogenation and/or degradation of halogenated organic chemical contaminants in water, sediments or soil is characterized in that water, sediments or soil is treated with a mixture consisting of fibrous organic materials being selected from a group comprising agricultural crops, crop residues, bushes, trees, grass, weeds, algae and mixtures thereof, and with metal particles of iron for dehalogenation and/or degradation of halogenated organic chemical contaminants in water, sediments or soil, whereby the fibrous organic materials are added at a dosage range from 0.5 to 50 percent by weight/weight of soil, sediment, or water and weight ratio of the iron metal particles to the fibrous organic materials in the specified mixture is in the range of 1 : 10 to 1 to 400 and the mixture is incubated at a temperature ranging from 0 to 60 degC and at moisture content greater than 50 percent. In the present invention there is also described a composition for making the above explained method. |
