A process for the preparation of 5-formylaminopyrimidine derivatives of the general formula (I) wherein the individual symbols are as defined in the main claim. The process comprises subjecting the starting 5-nitrosopyrimidine derivatives to reductive formylation in the presence of a noble metal catalyst, formic acid, and formic acid salt. The process does not require the use of hydrogen gas or elevated pressure and is therefore suitable for use on a technical scale |
