titleOfInvention | An implantable ophthalmic lens, a method for making it, and a mold for performing the method |
abstract | An implantable ophthalmic lens made at least in part of a soft elastic cup-shaped material comprises an outer optical surface (1) forming one portion and an inner optical surface (2) forming a second portion of the optical surface, wherein the inner optical surface (2) lies below the outer edge (4) and having a radius smaller than the radius of the outer optical surface (1), wherein the outer edge (4) of the dish and the edge of the inner optical surface are connected by an annular surface (3), in which lens the inner optical surface (2) has the shape of a meniscus of solidified liquid . The lens is made by solidifying the liquid precursor in a fixed form such that the level of the liquid precursor outside the optical zone is deformed by the solid annular surface of the non-wettable precursor body by submerging it below the original precursor level. The mold for carrying out the method consists of at least two parts (A, B), namely a cup-shaped lower part (A) and a tubular upper part (B) which, with its conically ground face (8), extends below the surface. |
