A process for the preparation of apatite powder Ca.sub.5 (PO.sub.4) sub.3 of a mineral based on calcination in a muffle furnace at a temperature in the range of 900 [mu] s to 1300 [mu] s. onC for a period of from 2 to 5 hours, separation in a wet vibration sorter, sedimentation separation of fines, magnetic separation and deflocculation of particles smaller than 80 microns / ml by alcoholic solution. The powder thus prepared is suitable for plasma spraying of biocompatible coatings on medical implants |
