Alkoxymethyl-substituted pyridone biphenyls of the general formula <IMAGE> in which R<1> stands for a carboxyl group, or stands for a C1-C8-alkoxycarbonyl group, R<2> stands for C1-C10-alkyl (straight-chain or branched) which is optionally substituted by phenyl, R<3> stands for halogen, hydrogen, C1-C6-alkyl, hydroxyl, C1-C8-alkoxy, trifluoromethyl or trifluoromethoxy, R<4> stands for carboxyl or for tetrazolyl and X stands for oxygen or sulphur, and their salts. Alkoxymethyl-substituted pyridone biphenyls are prepared by reacting appropriate pyridones with biphenylmethyl halogen compounds. The alkoxy methyl-substituted pyridone biphenyls can be employed as active ingredients in medicaments, in particular for the treatment of high blood pressure and atherosclerosis. |
