titleOfInvention A method for the selective recovery of environmentally harmful rare earth and / or toxic metals from electrical waste, especially cathode ray tubes and CRT monitors
abstract The method for the selective recovery of environmentally harmful rare earth and / or toxic metals from electrical waste, in particular cathode ray tube tubes and CRT monitors, in which electro-waste is crushed, the resulting debris or its extracted fraction is dissolved in the acid and used as a working solution electrolyte. Rare earth and / or environmentally damaging toxic metals are eliminated from the working electrolyte in the anode and cathode electrochemical cell by the action of an electrochemical reaction initiated by the difference in electrical potential between the electrodes. The working electrode (11) is a cathode which is formed from an electrodeposition material or is provided with an electrodeposition material to which at least one rare earth element and / or at least one toxic metal is deposited by an electrochemical reduction reaction of the working electrolyte with the electrodeposition material. The counter electrode (10) is an anode formed from an inert material resistant to electrochemical dissolution into the working electrolyte during the electrochemical reaction.
