abstract | The process for preparing substituted nitrophenylsulfurpentafluoride of formula 2 by substituting a nucleophilic aromatic substitution for hydrogen, wherein the nitrophenylsulfuropentafluoride having a nitro group attached at the meta or para position is reacted in an organic solvent with the compound of formula 3 in the presence of an excess of base and then with an excess of the compound of formula of formula R.sup.3.nXsup.2.n., where R.sup.3.n. is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1-10.n. alkyl, allyl, or benzyl and X.sup.2. is halogen. The invention includes subsequent chemical modifications of the primary products. This method further comprises reducing the product to aminophenyl sulfurpentafluorides of formula 4 and further converting them with sodium nitrite in the presence of a mineral acid to substituted phenylsulfuropentafluorides of formula 5. Substituents R < 1 >, R < 2 > .3.n., X.sup.1.n. and X.sup.2.n. have the meanings given in the specification. |
