Cholestane derivatives for use as anticancer and anti-angiogenic drugs and pharmaceutical preparations containing these |
abstract |
The present invention relates to cholestane derivatives and pharmaceutical compositions thereof for use as antitumor and antiangiogenic drugs, including a method for reducing the growth or complete and selective proliferation capacity of tumor cells. The invention also encompasses methods for arresting the cell cycle using cholestane derivatives resulting from apoptotic changes in the tumor cell. The invention also provides the use of these agents to inhibit angiogenesis through inhibition of migration and tubule formation of human endothelial cells. The invention encompasses their use in the control of the adverse effects of hyperpoliferation and angiogenesis of mammalian cells in vitro and in vivo, in particular the treatment of hyperproliferative diseases in a mammal by means of a composition comprising cholestane derivatives. The present invention also discloses novel therapeutic methods for modifying proliferation and invasion of breast and prostate tumor cells. |
