abstract The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a hyaluronan derivative modified by cyclodextrin .alpha., .Beta., .Gamma. or derivatives thereof prepared by reacting the appropriate cyclodextrin or derivative thereof with 1-chloro-2,3-epoxypropane and hyaluronan. The physical chemical properties of such modified hyaluronan significantly enhance its use in pharmacy and medicine as a carrier of low molecular weight active agents for targeted delivery and controlled release, or as a film-forming, rigid and scaffolding material for tissue engineering.
