titleOfInvention Process for crystallizing rosiglitazone and its derivatives from mixed solvents
abstract The process for crystallization of rosiglitazone of formula I, of formula II or acid salts of formula III wherein HX is mineral or carboxylic acid is carried out from mixed organic solvents consisting of mixtures of carboxylic acids, in particular formic acid, acetic acid or propionic acid, with aliphatic alcohols , in particular methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, 2-propanol, butanols or amyl alcohols. The invention also relates to crystalline 5- [4- [2- (N-methyl-N- (2-pyridyl) amino) ethoxy] benzyl] thiazolidine-2,4-dione, rosiglitazone of formula I; the penultimate of formula II and the salt of formula III. The crystalline rosiglitazone of formula I and its salts of formula III are useful in the preparation of a medicament having an antihyperglycaemic effect.
