A process for the preparation of water-soluble, aminic cationic polymers by continuous or discontinuous (batch) reaction of a polymer containing primary, secondary or tertiary amine functions in the side chain or main chain as starting materials, where the reaction is carried out in aqueous solution without additional solvents at a temperature of from 30 to 90 DEG C and at a pH of from 8 to 14 with an epoxide, a glycidyl ether or mixture of various epoxides and glycidyl ethers over the course of from 3 to 30 minutes, epoxides or glycidyl ethers are added in one or more portions, and, after the pH of the aqueous solution of the cationic polymer, which is > 13.5 after the reaction with epoxide or glycidyl ether, has been established, the product solution is obtained by means of a mineral acid or carboxylic acid without further work-up steps. |
