STANDARDIZED LACTON PREPARATIONS AND METHOD OF USE |
abstract |
Compounds of Formulas (Ia) and (Ic) having a lactone structure and a methylene group in the alpha position of the lactone structure and methods for the use and preparation of the compounds have been disclosed and disclosed. Lactone compounds may react with a nucleophilic agent to open the lactone ring in a compound of formula (Ib). The lactone of Formula (Ia) and its functional derivatives have been isolated from Securidata virgata. The purified compounds have demonstrated activity according to assays for antibacterial and anti-fungal activities and for the treatment of hyperplastic disorders such as cancer. |
