abstract The invention concerns inhibition of nitrification in soil by the use of new characteristics of fural by application of its optimum amount in a carrier medium, for example in water, into the upper layer of soil. The advantage of this inhibitor and its short persistence in soil in the original form and non-toxic products occurring during redox processes in the soil. The invention pursues the protection of components of the environment against contamination by damaging nitrates while maintaining the hygiene of the soil to the maximum.
