titleOfInvention Floccular spreadable pigment and process for preparing thereof
abstract Pigment (I) comprises a flaky substrate (II) having a first layer of titanium oxide or its hydrate of grain size 0.1-0.5 microns and a second layer of titanium oxide hydrate of below 0.1 micron size. (I) can be obtd. by (i) hot hydrolysis of an aq. soln. of a titanium cpd. followed by (ii) addn. of an aq. suspension of (II). (iii) addn. of aq. solns., contg. a titanium cpd. and a basic cpd. under heating and opt. (iv) firing the pigment obtd. to convert the hydrate to titanium oxide. Titanium cpd. in (i) and (iii) is e.g. Ti Q4. Basic cpd. in (iii) is e.g. NaOH, NH4OH etc. Substrate (II) can be talc, kaolin or sericite etc.
