abstract | Weed-killing agents consist of (a) an active herbicide component and (b) a plant-protecting component of formula (I): (where X is O or S; R is haloalkyl, alkyl or alkylthio; and R1-6 are H, lower alkyl, alkoxyalkyl or lower alkylol; provided that when X is O then R1 and R2 are H or CH3 and that when R3-6 are H then R is other than dichloromethyl). (I) protect useful plants (e.g. barley, rice, maize, sunflower oilrape sorghum, wheat, soya, oats) against the injurious effects of weedkillers, and is also applicable to seeds, by protecting against damage by substituted acetanilides or thiocarbamates. Method comprises treating the seed of useful plants prior to sowing with a sufficient but non-phytotoxic amt of a cpd of formula (I). |
