abstract | A process for the production of quetomalonic acid compounds or hydrates thereof is described by reacting a malonic acid compound with one or more chlorous acid compounds selected from chlorous acid and chlorites and thus oxidizing the methylene group of the malonic acid compound. The process does not need highly toxic reagents, unsafe reagents, special reagents, special reaction equipment, expensive reagents, expensive catalysts, or transition metals such as noble metals, and allows the selection of moderate reaction conditions and simple operation, thus allowing the efficient and easy production of quetomalonic acid compounds such as quetomalonic diesters under simple and easy conditions suitable for industrialization. |
