abstract The invention relates to novel cycloalkyl- or cycloalkenyl-substituted pyrazolopyrimidinones of formula (I), wherein A is selected from the group A1 consisting of a C3-C8 cycloalkyl group or a C4-C8 cycloalkenyl group, where the group members C3-C8 cycloalkyl are selected from the group of cyclopropyl, cyclobutyl, cyclopentyl, cyclohexyl, cycloheptanyl and cyclooctanyl; and the members of the C4-C8 cycloalkenyl group are selected from cyclobutenyl, cyclopentenyl, cyclohexenyl, cycloheptenyl, cyclooctenyl, cyclopentadienyl, cyclohexadienyl, cycloheptadienyl, cyclooctadienyl, cycloheptatrienyl, cyclooctatrienyl and cyclooctatetraenyl. The new compounds will be used for the manufacture of medicines, in particular medicines to improve perception, concentration, learning and / or memory in patients in need. Chemically, the compounds are characterized as pyrazolopyrimidinones with a cycloalkyl moiety directly attached to the 1-position of the pyrazolopyrimidinone and a second substituent at the 6th position that is linked by an optionally substituted methylene bridge. Other aspects of the present invention relate to a process for the preparation of the compounds and their use to produce medicaments.
